Before refrigeration, fermentation was one of the ways people preserved food and transformed simple ingredients into something distinctive.
Every food culture developed its own traditions: sourdough rising on a kitchen bench, kimchi fermenting in earthenware pots, and kefir cultures passed between families. Fermentation was never merely a trend. It was practical knowledge, refined over generations.
Industrial food made many things cheaper, faster and more widely available. It also put distance between the people who make food and the people who eat it. Today, finding genuinely fermented, carefully made food can be harder than it should be.
Meanwhile, extraordinary producers are working in our neighbourhoods—serious home bakers and dedicated fermenters who have spent years perfecting their craft—but many have no simple, professional way to reach nearby buyers.
That is the gap Fresh Fermenting exists to close.
We are building a marketplace where artisan fermented-food producers can establish trust and sell locally. Sellers must provide evidence of current food-business registration before their first listing can go live. The platform is designed to help track that verification and pause listings when it expires.
Buyers get a clearer connection to who made their food. Producers get a professional storefront, local discovery and a simple way to take payment—without having to build the whole system alone.

Starting with sourdough
Loaf launches in New Zealand first. It connects registered sourdough micro-bakers with local buyers for direct pickup: no shipping, no cold chain and no anonymous supply chain.
From there, our vision reaches further—to fermented vegetables, drinks and cultured dairy, and eventually to communities beyond New Zealand. We want serious producers to have a better platform and buyers to have a better way to find them.
Real food. Made nearby. By people you can know.

Registration and food-safety requirements vary by jurisdiction. Fresh Fermenting’s compliance tools do not replace advice from the relevant regulator or a qualified professional.
